2019 at Crema Joe - what we've achieved

This year at Crema Joe, we have achieved so much, and with your help and support, we feel proud and blessed to be part of making a positive difference. Here's our 2019 wrap up!

Our aim is to encourage and motivate consumers to make better choices when it comes to their coffee habits. And this year, Crema Joe has certainly grown, helping more people to make better, planet friendly choices.

We’ve introduced new products, helping a wider range of coffee lovers reduce their waste, all packaged in either compostable or recyclable materials.

Over the last month, we've begun moving across to a bigger warehouse, which will help us to continue to grow our offering, in turn helping more people (and businesses) reduce waste.

Speaking of businesses, we finally launched our workplace offering! Crema Joe Supply services businesses in Melbourne's CBD, delivering our sustainable capsules, filled with freshly ground coffee, which we then pick up, clean and repack - this closed loop is the first of it's kind, in the world.

We also attended the The National Sustainable Living Festival, Moral Fairground Ethical Lifestyle Festival, 1 Million Women LoveEarth Festival, Zero Waste Victoria Festival, and took part in the ING Dreamstarter "Gifts That Give" pop-up store at Westfield Bondi Junction.

When it comes to running a sustainable business, we're continually working on improving our own practices, moving forward with passion and purpose. We've continued to take careful, intentional steps this year, treading more lightly on our earth wherever possible. We've also helped other businesses and the community to become more environmentally responsible. Working collectively is one of the best ways we can continue to build our impact.

And by packaging our orders using repurposed, reused or recyclable materials, not only do we increase the lifecycle of these materials, reducing landfill, we're also helping our local community to reduce waste.

We've opened up our Recycling Program to include breadtags and plastic bottle tops, which are repurposed into other products via Precious Plastic Melbourne

In May, we announced our updated impact statement, with our users saving over 11.5 million capsules (yearly!) from landfill - we're now gearing up to update this number, as the amount of users brewing with our reusables has grown substantially over the past 6 months.

In July, some of our crew took time out to plant native trees during Planet Ark National Tree Day - Australia's largest tree planting and nature care event.

In September, our team also took part in the School Strike 4 Climate Australia, pledging as part of the This Is Not Business As Usual movement.

Our team grew, with new additions joining our amazing crew as our little business expands. We welcomed a Crema Joe baby, with another team member heading off early in 2020 for another bub (there must be something in the water)!

Awards and accolades

In August, we made it through to first finalist round of the Banksia Foundation Sustainability Awards.

In September, our founder Kayla took out the pink trophy (3rd) in the Sustainability category at the 2019 AusMumpreneur awards.

In November, we were announced as a recipient of a prestigious City Of Melbourne Small Business Grant.

Thank you to the entire Crema Joe, for your support over the past year, and the years before it - each and every one of you are an integral part to why we do what we do, and our overall impact! We look forward to continuing our journey towards a greener future with your 2020.
